The Stellarvue SV110 is our largest, and best priced, doublet ED refractor telescope. The SV110 uses a hand figured ED lens, known for its exceptional image quality. It produces a brighter and higher resolution image than the 102, which uses the same glass and lens design. For best results when imaging, use our SFF7-25 field flattener.
Fully multicoated ED objective lens: With a 110 mm f-7 extra low dispersion objective lens, this telescope presents an excellent star test with color correction that is far superior to a typical achromat. The lenses are hand figured by a master optician to a high Strehl ratio. These are not mass produced, machine made lenses. This telescope uses an ED objective lens that has been tested three times in the USA, for added quality control. We accept no compromises in this telescope's optics. Several layers of extreme broadband coatings are used on all four of the lens surfaces. This further enhances the contrast of the image: the stars appear vivid and bright against a dark black background. These coatings transmit light above and below the visual spectrum making them well suited for ccd imaging.
Stardust white aluminum tube and dew shield: The aluminum tube and dew shield is painted in a lustrous and beautiful stardust white finish. This white finish will stand out against the black anodized aluminum fittings giving this telescope a high-end, classy look. The 121 mm extension tube may be removed making the telescope airline carry on size and allowing for the use of binocular viewers without any adapters. The dew shield can either be extended or retracted. Extension reduces dewing at night can cut out the light from those blaring street lamps. The dew shield also serves as a lens shade during the day. Retraction will reduce the length of your telescope tube for convenient storage.
Internal tube treatment: The inside of the tube assembly is fully baffled and painted "ultra flat black" This treatment is far more effective than tubes that are textured and painted black. Light baffles cut down on tube wall reflections entirely increasing contrast significantly.
Focuser: The SV110 comes with the SVF25 focuser. This is a 2.5" fully rotating, precision dual speed focuser with a threaded focuser drawtube, 1.25 and 2” compression ring adapters and an over-sized rotating assembly is standard. The focuser has three focusing knobs, one on the left and two on the right. The single knob on the left and a larger knob on the right provide coarse focusing. On the right side is a second, slightly smaller, brass colored fine focus knob. This fine focus knob has an 11-1 rotation reducer, allowing for fine and accurate focusing. A tension adjustment set screw is positioned under the focuser and a thumb screw allows for locking the focuser. The draw-tube is inscribed with a millimeter scale on top. This focuser is larger in inside diameter than the 2” focuser and can lift heavier weight. Two 5 mm threaded holes on top of the focuser allow for the attachment of a finder scope. The focuser is fully rotating, only requiring the loosening of a knob. The SFF7-25 Field flattener threads into the rear of this focuser.
Aluminum hinged rings: The SV110 comes with two hinged, aluminum mounting rings. Each ring has five screws, top and bottom. Threaded holes are 6mm. There is one center hole, two holes spaced 1.5" apart and two holes spaced 60 mm apart. Use the optional TP-14 rail for telescope mounts using the Vixen style rail or use the optional TP6 for mounts that use the larger Losmandy style rail.
What else do you need? In addition to the supplied accessories, you will need a star diagonal or erecting prism, eyepiece(s) and a mount. You may also want to buy our C9S case and a reflex or optical finder scope.
Light gathering and magnification power: The purpose of a telescope is to gather light and magnify the apparent size of the object being viewed. A 110 mm refractor gathers 247 times the amount of light of the naked eye. This will reveal faint objects in space. Magnification power (the increase in relative size of the object being viewed) is dependant upon the eyepiece being used. Different eyepieces provide different magnification powers. Since this telescope uses a highly accurate, hand figured objective lens and has been triple tested, these telescopes are free of coma and astigmatism seen in many imported telescopes. This provides sharper details when viewing at higher powers. The Recommended Accessories section can guide you through making the best choices in eyepieces.
Two year warranty and Stellarvue Service: Stellarvue telescopes and accessories are covered by a two year warranty. But it does not stop there. Since we are a telescope maker, we can repair your telescope for a nominal fee years after it goes out of warranty, should you accidentally drop it on concrete or otherwise damage it. Buy a Stellarvue Telescope with confidence. Our customer care is legendary.
