SVX102T-R - Gamma Cygni Central Rift

Mark Mruczek captured this stellar shot of Gamma Cygni Central Rift (within 1318B/C) in Cygnus with his SVX102T Raptor. According to Mark: “This is a close-up view of one of the most incredible regions of the summer Milky Way, in the constellation Cygnus. What looks like clouds and smoke are actually enormous concentrations of glowing gas and dark dust, thousands of light-years (3,700 ly) away. The dark structures are part of the Cygnus Rift, vast clouds of dust so dense that they block the light from the stars and nebulae behind them.”

According to Mark:
“This image was captured over three nights from a heavily light-polluted Bortle 8 backyard. Thanks to the exceptional, razor-sharp optics of the SVX102T-R paired with the SFFX-1 field flattener, I was able to deeply focus on the high-contrast structural boundaries of this cosmic dust canyon at a native 714mm focal length, resolving fine, wispy gas details despite average atmospheric seeing.”
