Stellar Shot of the Week: June 18, 2021
"Messier 101 - The Pinwheel Galaxy" (by Ken Walker)

Congratulations to this week's Stellar Shot selection, which goes to Ken Walker and his image of Messier 101 (otherwise known as the Pinwheel Galaxy). Ken had actually submitted his image of M81 and M82, which is fantastic in its own right and which can be seen on his Flickr page (https://flic.kr/p/2kYXpWv); but upon seeing this M101 everyone here at Stellarvue was absolutely floored. The detail inside the galaxy itself is absolutely flawless, and the color pallet for both M101 and the stars around it looks amazing as well. This of course speaks as much to Ken's ability as a processor as it does to the optics themselves, which in this case included our SVX102T-R with the associated SFFX-1 field flattener. The stars are all sharp, the noise is extremely well controlled, and even the faint little whispies of the outer spiral arms are visible and well colored too. Really great work here by Ken, but make sure to submit your own images to us directly by email, or by tagging them with #stellarvue and #stellarshot
