The SVX140T-R is a 140 mm, f-6.7 apochromatic refractor made with a super-low dispersion center element and Lanthanum rear element. This is an exclusive, proprietary Stellarvue optic designed for astro-photography. We shortened the focal ratio specifically designing this telescope for imaging using our dedicated field flatteners. See the numerous images taken with this telescope on Astro-bin. The performance of the SVX140T optics were evaluated by Ryan Voykin of Dark Rangers Inc. Stellarvue SVX140T Review.
Price: This telescope is priced based on the focuser it comes with. The total price of the telescope equipped as outlined below is as follows:
Telescope with Stellarvue 3" dual speed focuser: $7695
Telescope with 3.5" Feather Touch focuser: $8715
Telescope with 3.5" Moonlite Nitecrawler focuser: $9995
Optics: SVX140T-R is rated at .96 Strehl or higher as measured on our Zygo Phase Shifting Interferometer in red light. We hand-figure the objective in-house using the interferometer to minimize all aberrations. We then move the center of correction toward the green where CMOS sensors are most sensitive. Visit our SVX Optics Page to learn more about this process.
Coatings: Broadband, full multi-coatings on each surface and edge blackening of each element enhance contrast and eliminate unwanted reflections.
What's included?
SVX140T telescope

Information on focusers: We offer three different focuser options. This will allow you to chose the focuser that best meets your requirements. Here is a synopsis of the differences:
- The Stellarvue 3" focuser. This focuser has 4.5" of travel and 2" and 1.25" compression ring adapters. Our brand focuser is stable and smooth with a highly accurate 8 to 1 reduction that allows precise focusing. This is the same focuser used on our smaller aperture telescopes. Both Optec, Prima Luce and ZWO motors attach directly to this focuser, allowing even more precise focusing. For visual use or for imaging with smaller cameras, this focuser works very well. The Stellarvue 3" focuser weighs 3.12 lbs.
Please note: Using this focuser with the SVX140T and dedicated reducer/flattener will result in some vignetting on the edges when using a full frame camera. For the best full frame results, chose one of the 3.5" focusers below.
- The Starlight Instruments 3.5" focuser, with 4.5" of travel and 2" and 1.25" compression ring adapters. This is the most common focuser ordered with this telescope. About half of all the SVX140T telescopes are sold with this focuser. This is an American-made focuser that is larger and even smoother than the focuser above. It also has a greater weight capacity than the SV focuser. Both Optec and Starlight Instruments make motors for these focusers. This focuser is highly recommended for use with full frame cameras and when the telescope is used for both imaging and visual use. The Feather Touch 3.5" focuser weighs 5.8 lbs
- The Moonlight Nightcrawler 3.5" focuser with various extension tubes and 2" and 1.25" adapters. This is an advanced, electronic, computerized focuser preferred by dedicated imagers. It is just what is needed for remote imaging as it is fully computerized and has a motorized rotator. It is the most expensive upgrade, but for those who want perfection when it comes to imaging, or are remote imagers, this is considered one of the very best. The downside is, this is not as good a visual focuser. It is harder to focus an electronic focuser manually, and it may require switching out extensions when switching from one eyepiece to the next. Since most high-end imagers rarely or never look through their instrument, this is usually no big deal. The Moonlight Nitecrawler 3.5" focuser (WR35) weighs 8 lbs.
*Please note that the default color for the Nitecrawler will be RED unless specified otherwise. For a full list of available color options visit www.focuser.com.
Optional Accessories:
Mounts:
We recommend the mounts listed below in order of cost
Visual Alt Az Mounts:
Mounts for Imaging:
Losmandy G11G
Paramount MYT.
Other mounts we recommend include the Astro-Physics and the Ten Micron mounts.
Optional Visual Accessories:
Eyepieces and Star Diagonal: In addition to one of the mounts above, you will need a star diagonal and eyepieces. Order our best diagonal and eyepiece assortment by selecting the "Add Our Best Visual Accessories and Save" option at the top of this page. , eyepieces, mount, and tripod to observe with this telescope. You will find that a finder scope is helpful in locating objects. We recommend the following:
Finder Scope: Optional. You will find that a finder scope is helpful in locating objects. We recommend the F050W2 finder scope. The proper ring system for this finder is the R050DA ring system.
Optional Photographic Field Flatteners
Photographic Field Flattener: To image with this telescope use the Stellarvue SFFX-3 photographic Field Flattener. These are our proprietary flatteners designed by us and made here, exclusively for our 130 - 180 mm refractors. Stellarvue will match the camera thread and back focus of your imaging train as long as your camera thread is one of these: M42, M48, M-54, M-68, 2.156"-24, 3"-24.
Photographic Focal Reducer/Field Flattener: This photographic field flattener and focal reducer is made exclusively by Stellarvue. It is designed as a full-frame+, dedicated reducer/flattener specifically for our SVX130T and SVX140T apo triplet refractors.
It reduces the f-ratio on the SVX140T from f-6.7 to f-5.4 reducing its focal length to 750 mm. As with all Stellarvue-designed photographic flatteners, these units have a very long back focus to accommodate using a variety of additional accessories. Stellarvue will match the camera thread and back focus of your imaging train as long as your camera thread is one of these: M42, M48, M-54, M-68, 2.156"-24, 3"-24.
Unlike the former import reducer/flatteners we sold with a single extra low dispersion element, this unit uses two very low-dispersion, fluoro-phosphate glasses. All elements are fully-multicoated with broadband coatings designed for astro-imaging.
