This is the latest tripod created by Stellarvue specifically for the M002C mount head and column. This is the tripod only. This product is also available with the mount and column on the M002CX-D2 Mount System Page. This tripod is slightly lighter than the imported stainless-steel mount but is stable thanks to the design. Apple-ply lower legs slide easily into the upper aluminum tube and each legs locks securely with two knobs. This gives a great deal of flexibility in adjusting the height and level of the tripod. With the legs fully retracted the tripod is about 32" high. When the legs are fully extended the tripod is about 43 inches high. Using the world's most expensive plywood (Apple-ply) the leg has the structural strength of steel, and it absorbs vibrations. The weight is bottom loaded making this tripod much more stable than carbon fiber tripods. Anyone who has had an expensive telescope blow over in the wind can appreciate this design feature.
The legs are tightened against the 6061-T6 aluminum tripod top with large stainless-steel bolts and lock nuts. Each leg pulls out from its storage position and hits a stop and when fully extended, the tripod does not require a tray for stability. An optional apply-ply tray is available separately for conveniently storing eyepieces.
