SVX152T - Crescent Nebula - Brian Meyers Brian Meyers caught this stellar shot of the Crescent Nebula (NGC 6888) in Cygnus with his SVX152T. This emission nebula is a result of the fast stellar wind from the Wolf Rayet star WR 136 (HD 192163) colliding with and energizing the slower moving wind from when it became a red giant between 250,000 and 400,000 years ago. The result was a shell and two shock waves; one moving outward and one moving inward. The inward moving shock wave heats the stellar wind up to X-ray emitting temperatures. This nebula rests approximately 5,000 light-years away from Earth and stretches about 25 light-years across.
