SVX140T - HDW 3
May 28, 2025 - Tony Hallas & Frank Dibbell
This surreal shot of Hartl-Dengel-Weinberger 3 (HDW 3) was taken by Frank Dibbell with his
SVX140T and processed by Tony Hallas. This faint planetary nebula is located approximately 2,500 light-years away in the constellation Perseus. This nebula’s central star is a white dwarf, meaning it’s the core of a star that has exhausted nuclear fuel. The star’s stellar wind is blowing away surrounding material, forming this object as a result.
According to Tony: Multiple attempts were made to process this... some of this detail is just above the noise floor. The final version is posted. Taken with a Stellarvue SVX 140mm and a ZWO 2600MM. RGB = 12 X 600 seconds each, H-a + OIII = 33 X 1200 seconds each. Taken from Bortle 1 New Mexico skies. Imaged using NINA, processed with CCDStack, Photoshop, Registar, and various PS plug-ins.
Other Designations: HDW 3, PK 149-09.1, PN G149.4-09.2
