Larry Amman caught this vivid shot of the Cave Nebula (Sh2-155) with his SVX140T. According to Larry, “This nebula in Cepheus is about 2,400 light-years from Earth and is part of the larger Cepheus molecular cloud. It is a complex combination of emission, reflection, and dark nebulae and contains numerous hot, newly formed stars. One such star (HD 216629) can be seen here within the lavender-colored cloud near the upper left corner of the image. It is classified as “Herbig Be,” an intermediate mass pre-main-sequence star still embedded within its gas-dust envelope. Also visible here is the Herbig-Haro object HH 168 within the orange-red cloud near the top center. The bright star just below the left-most extension of the cave is HD 217086, believed to be responsible for the ionization of gas in the cave itself. The narrowband data was processed after removing stars. Stars were extracted from the RGB data and stretched separately, then added to the SHO image as the last step of creating the final image.”
