Kaiden Bain caught this terrific image of the Cave Nebula (Sh2-155) in Cepheus with his SVX102T. This diffuse nebula lies at the edge of the Cephus B cloud and is ionized by stars in the Cep OB3 association. It lies approximately 2,500 light-years away from Earth and roughly 40 light-years across. It is thought by scientists that radiation from the hot O-type star HD 217086 is compressing the region, forming a new generation of stars as a result.
According to Kaiden: “This image represents my first overnight star party! GSSP was an excellent time, and I met many wonderful people. No doubt I will be making it there more! I have tried this faint nebula from my Bortle 9 backyard to no avail. I am happy to have had an opportunity to make it happen!”
