Stellar Shot of the Week: December 04, 2020
"Giant Solar Prominence" - by Hawk Wolinsky

This week's StellarShot is a bit different than usual as it is actually a GIF file depicting a time-lapsed solar flare. This unbelievable work was done by David "Hawk" Wolinsky, who runs a fantastic Astrobin account under the name AstroHawk. His page is filled to the brim with equally impressive solar images, as well as an outstanding collection of deep sky targets to boot. To take these magnificent images Hawk has been using a Stellarvue 102 doublet with a Solar Spectrum ERF, along with the Daystar 0.4 Angstrom quantum PE filter, a Baader telecentric lens, and an Astro physics mount. Processing was done with Pixinsight, IMPPG, Topaz AI Sharpen and PIPP, and this particular shot is incredibly just 175 frames @20fps. It was selected as an Astrobin Image of the Day on 10/29/2020, and looking through the rest of Hawk's Astrobin gallery it is just one of many to be recognized as a top pick.

Make sure to go give Hawk a follow, and don't forget to submit your own images to us directly by email, or by tagging them with #stellarvue and #stellarshot on social media.
