SVX130T-R - LDN 1105

Posted by Ken Walker on 21st May 2024

Ken Walker caught this remarkable image of the Elephant’s Trunk (LDN 1105) in Cepheus with his SVX130T-R. Located approximately 2,400 light-years away from Earth with a diameter between 65 and 160 light-years, this emission nebula is a concentration of interstellar gas and dust within the much larger ionized gas region IC 1396. Its bright rim is the surface of the dense cloud being illuminated and ionized by the bright massive star HD 206267, that is just to the east of it.
