Stellar Shot of the Week 05/11/2017

The Lagoon Nebula (M8) by Joel Short

Joel Short captured this image of "The Lagoon Nebula" (M8) using his Stellarvue SV80ST refractor, QHY163M camera and Optolong LRGB filters on his Mach1GTO CP4 mount.

Joel says, "I finally had three clear nights in a row that were wonderfully dry/transparent. That hasn't happened in probably 6 months and I was able to collect about 18hrs on two objects, both in LRGB. My primary object was Markarian's chain and I got 13.5 hours on it. After Markarian's chain got too low I switched over to M8, the Lagoon nebula. This is just 4.5hrs and I intended to get much more time before processing, but frankly I thought it looked good enough already."
