If you are looking for a highly accurate visual telescope in the five inch range, this is it. The optics in this instrument are hand figured to .98 - .996 Strehl with low spherical error. After machine polishing we map the wavefront using our 6” Zygo phase shifting laser interferometer. This shows extremely minute variations which we then correct through hand and special tool figuring. Once our extremely high optical standard is met lenses are optically coated. We then assemble lens elements in the cell, optimize them on the interferometer and when the accuracy is as high as we can get it, we print out the test report showing the performance at 100% aperture. To see this process in action watch our YouTube video.
The objective in this telescope uses a combination of Hoya FCD100 and Lanthanum. With dispersion nearly identical to S-FPL53, the contrast in this system is very high, and since every lens is hand figured and then perfectly aligned before shipment you can be sure that you’ll be getting excellent visual performance. With the 3” Stellarvue focuser you’ll be able to handle any combination of diagonal and eyepiece. Also, with the superior design of this rack and pinion focuser you can be assured of smooth yet stable draw tube travel.
3" Stellarvue visual/photographic focuser: Our new smooth and stable dual speed, 3” focuser provides more draw tube travel than ever before, nearly 4.5"! This focuser is perfect for visual use. The Stellarvue focuser on the SVX125D is a fully rotating, heavy-duty rack and pinion unit designed to carry a higher capacity. It has an ultra-smooth (10:1 Ratio) fine focus control to attain perfect focus every time. An internal brake system allows the user to adjust capacity. All of the features add up to one of the finest dual speed focusers available today.
Case: The heavy duty Stellarvue C130L case works perfectly for the SVX125D. It is available separately for $199. Save $100 when you order the case with telescope above.
Tube and dew shield: The Stellarvue SVX125D comes with an aluminum tube and dew shield that is finished in Instrument White. Fittings are black anodized aluminum. The dew shield retracts reducing the length of the telescope when being stored. Extending the dew-shield minimizes dewing of the objective at night and serves as a glare shade during the daytime.
Internal tube treatment: The inside of the main tube assembly is painted "ultra flat black" and is baffled to eliminate tube wall reflections.
Aluminum hinged rings: The SVX125D comes with your choice of mounting rings. You may choose either the imported lightweight rings or a set of our heavy duty Stellarvue rings that are made in the USA.
Import Rings: Each import ring is about 21 mm (.8") thick and is made from cast aluminum. Each ring has five M6X1 metric threaded holes top and bottom. There is one center hole, two holes spaced 38 mm apart and two holes spaced 60 mm apart.
Stellarvue Rings: The optional Stellarvue rings are cnc machined from one inch thick 6061-T6 aluminum. There are five 1/4-20 threaded holes top and bottom. There is a center hole, two holes that are 1.5" apart and two holes that are 2.4" apart. American made Stellarvue rings are significantly stronger than cast aluminum rings.
The telescope pictured at the top of this page is shown with Stellarvue rings. The image to the right shows a comparison with the import ring in between two Stellarvue rings.
To attach these rings to your select the proper sized rail. For mounts using the 1 3/4" wide Vixen style rail use our TP010 rail. For Mounts using a Losmandy style rail use our TP013 rail.
Light gathering and magnification power: A 125 mm refractor gathers 319 times the amount of light the naked eye does. Although Dawes limit states maximum power for telescopes under good conditions is about 300 power for a 125 mm telescope, since this is a high Strehl apo refractor you can exceed this power on a steady night. Check the Recommended Accessories section to make the best choice for eyepieces.
Two year warranty and Stellarvue Service: We are with you for life. Stellarvue telescopes and accessories are covered by a two year warranty. But it does not stop there. Since we are a telescope maker, we can repair your telescope for a very nominal fee years after it goes out of warranty, should you accidentally drop it on concrete or otherwise damage it. Buy a Stellarvue Telescope with confidence. Our customer care is legendary.

Low Power, Wide Field Eyepiece for larger extended objects, loosing yourself in the star fields of the Milky Way, etc. We recommend one of two options. If you are using a go-to computerized telescope mount the E7026R can serve a dual purpose. This eyepiece provides a wide 70 degree field of view and it has a crosshair reticle built in. This reticle will assist you in centering the three stars when you set up your telescope to operate in go-to mode. You can optionally purchase an illuminator for the eyepiece to make it easy to see the crosshair. Since this eyepiece is economical and has the crosshair, many of our customers like using it. For better overall correction and the widest field of view get the EOP 20.0.
Mount and Tripod:
Computerized motor driven equatorial mount and tripod that is portable and economical
125mm clear aperture, 975 mm focal length (F-7.8), apochromatic doublet with FCD100 and Lanthanum.
Machined aluminum tube painted Instrument White outside, ultra flat back inside.
The optical tube assembly weighs 15.2 pounds without rings. Stellarvue rings weigh 1 1/4 lbs ea and import rings weigh about .6 pounds each.
The main tube has a 5-1/4" diameter. The complete telescope is 33-1/2” long with dew shield retracted.
6-1/2" diameter fully retracting dew shield with cap.
3" dual speed Stellarvue FSV-3B rack and pinion focuser with 2" and 1.25" compression ring adapters and two finderscope mounting bases. Precision rack and pinion focusers have better stability and a higher lifting capacity than import Crayford focusers.
Chose between the American made, cnc-machined Stellarvue rings or lightweight import rings above.
Optional. We carry the F001 red dot finder and the F002 multi reticle finder.
CASE: Optional. Chose the C130L thickly padded, heavy duty case above.
Optional we suggest the TP013 Losmandy style rail
Optional. Please note, you can purchase our 2" Quartz Dielectric diagonal upgrade for only $199 above. The upgrade diagonal is the same as the D1040Q deluxe dielectric diagonal but it does not come with a 1.25" adapter since the telescope already has

I thought this telescope was an outstanding deal. I have owned many telescopes over the years and this one has the best star images. I've taken some deep space photos with the SVX125D and I like the results.
I knew I wanted a high quality, non mass-produced refractor with at least 100mm of aperture - but with no interest in AP, I couldn't justify the extra expense for a triplet. A 30 minute conversation with Vic Maris convinced me that this apochromatic doublet was the perfect telescope for me - and it is! It is very well made and performs admirably. And you just can't beat the Stellarvue team for support. All of this adds up to a great value for me. I can't wait to take this up to Truckee for some serious deep sky object exploring!
