Additional Info

The Stellarvue SV115T25 is designed to be our best portable refractor telescope. It delivers visual performance that exceeds that of any 4" refractor and provides performance that exceeds that of many 5” refractors while remaining light weight and portable. With reflector-like color correction and excellent contrast, this is the ultimate choice for observers to clearly discern fine planetary details, split close double stars, and see extended regions of nebulosity under dark skies. Sphero-chromatic correction is as good as  we can make it. The SV115T25 is an outstanding planetary refractor; only the SV160R is better. The photographic performance of this telescope is also very good with our photographic field flatteners.

Fully multi-coated apochromatic triplet objective: The Stellarvue 115 mm Apochromatic triplet objective provides extremely high contrast views, a perfect star test and reflector-like color correction. Lenses are hand figured by a master optician to a high Strehl ratio. This is a no-compromise optic that will perform as well or better than any lens in its size class. Several extreme broadband coatings are used on all six lens surfaces to enhance contrast, making the stars vivid and the background velvet black. Since it is important to minimize reflections seen on ccd images, these coatings will transmit light above and below the visual spectrum. This is the telescope that Vic Maris currently uses at home. It meets his demand for a no-compromise, light-weight, and portable telescope.

Stardust white aluminum tube and dew shield: The  aluminum tube and dew shield is painted in a lustrous and beautiful  stardust  white finish. This white finish will stand out against the  black anodized  aluminum fittings giving this telescope a high-end, classy look. The dew shield  can either be extended or retracted. Extension reduces dewing at night and can cut  out the light from those blaring street lamps. The dew shield also serves as a  lens shade during the day. Retraction will reduce the length of your telescope  tube for convenient storage.

Internal tube treatment:  The inside of the tube  assembly is painted "ultra flat black" and is fully baffled to  eliminate reflection. The  focuser has 11 baffle ridges to reduce draw tube reflections. These ridges are painted,  reducing the most commonly found type of  reflected glare.  This treatment  provides better glare reduction than focusers that only have the ridging to  prevent glare. All of these methods add up to provide  the  outstanding contrast of the  Apo triplet lens.

2.5" Stellarvue dual speed focuser: The 2.5" SV focuser has over 80 mm of focus travel. This focuser is perfect for visual use and imaging.  The dual speed mechanism provides an ultra-smooth fine focus knob with 10:1 focusing ratio. This permits extremely fine focusing adjustment ensuring you are in perfect focus every time. An internal brake system adjusts tension and capacity.

Aluminum hinged rings:   The SV115 comes with two hinged, aluminum  mounting rings. Each ring has five screws top and bottom. Threaded holes are  6mm. There is one center hole, two holes spaced 1.5" apart and two holes spaced  60 mm apart. Use the optional TP-10 rail for telescope mounts using the Vixen style rail or use the  optional TP6 for mounts that use the larger Losmandy style rail.

C9S Case: A heavy duty, thickly padded storage case  is included. This case will withstand more rough use than an import hard case  would. Many customers have been using the C9 cases for nearly ten years; they  have yet to report a failing.

What else do you need?   In addition to the supplied  accessories, you will need a star diagonal or erecting prism, eyepiece(s), a mount, and a reflex or optical finder scope

Light gathering and magnification power: The purpose of a telescope is to gather light and magnify the apparent size of the object being viewed. A 115 mm refractor gathers 270 times the amount of light of the naked eye. This will reveal faint objects in space, such as nebulae. Magnification power (the increase in relative size of the object being viewed) is dependent upon the eyepiece being used. Different eyepieces provide different magnification powers. Since this telescope uses a highly accurate, hand figured objective lens and is triple tested in the USA, these telescopes are free of coma and astigmatism seen in many import telescopes. This provides sharper details when viewing at higher powers. Although Dawes limit states maximum power for telescopes under good conditions is about 270 power for a 115 mm telescope, you can exceed this power on a steady night. This is a true apo triplet capable of high power, when conditions permit. Check the Recommended Accessories section to make the best choice for eyepieces.

Two year warranty and Stellarvue Service:  Stellarvue telescopes and accessories are covered by a two year warranty. But it  does not stop there. Since we are a telescope maker, we can repair your  telescope for a nominal fee years after it goes out of warranty, should you  accidentally drop it on concrete or otherwise damage it. Buy a Stellarvue  Telescope  with confidence. Our customer care is legendary.
