Product Description

NOTE: This telescope is currently wait listed since they are in demand and handcrafted one at a time. We polish these lenses and figure them individually here in California. As an American manufacturer of telescopes, we believe this level of consistent quality is worth the wait.  So if you want one of the finest telescopes made call us at (530) 823-7796. A $1200 deposit will be charged. You will be put on the list and we will ship your telescope based on the date of the order. So the sooner you get on the wait list, the sooner you will receive your telescope. We anticipate a one year wait at this point based on our current rate of production and the number of orders already placed.

Lens manufacturing: Each SVA130 objective is a high Strehl, triple tested lens using Ohara FPL-53 center element and Schott outer elements. Manufacturing these lenses is a very precise and labor intensive activity. The process will be shown here on this website once we have completed a video of the entire process. Lens elements are curved generated, ground, polished and outer surfaces coated with an extreme broadband multi-layer coating. These elements are then tested to ensure they meet spec, brought into our clean room where they ae oiled together and mounted in a cell. The final assembly is then optimized and the result documented on the Zygo interferometer. All SVA130T lenses reach a minimum Strehl ratio of .95 before they are approved for sale. Please note: this is not the design spec but the actual optical specification of each finished lens. We print out the Zygo test report and provide it to the customer.

Coatings: Our broadband full multi-coating transmits an extremely high percentage of light from 400 - 1000 nm. Covering the area above and below the visual spectrum makes this telescope well suited for both visual and astro-photographic work.

Aluminum tube and dew shield: The aluminum tube and dew shield is machined and then powdercoated in our durable Instrument White finish. We then have the dew shield laser engraved with our logo. All of this work is done here in California.

Internal tube treatment:  The inside of the tube assembly is baffled and painted "ultra flat black" to cut down on excess reflections. The inside of the focuser has light blocking ridges. These ridges are painted ultra flat black, eliminating reflected glare.  .

3" Feather Touch focuser: The fully rotating, 3" Feather Touch focuser has 3.5" of travel and is large enough to work with our largest field flatteners. There is  no need to ever go larger than this massive 3" focuser. This focuser features ultra-smooth coarse and fine focus knobs  (10:1 Ratio), internal brake system, ultra-low backlash system.

Aluminum hinged rings:   The SV and SVA 130’s come with two American made, cnc machined, hinged, aluminum  mounting rings. Each ring has five screws top and bottom. Threaded holes are  1/4-20. There is one center hole, two holes spaced 1.5" apart and two holes spaced  60 mm apart.

What else do you need?   In addition to the supplied accessories, you will need a star diagonaleyepiece(s), a mount, and a reflex or optical finder scope. Depending on your mount you may need a rail or plate to attach the rings to the mount. Use the optional TP-10 rail for telescope mounts using the Vixen style rail or use the optional TP6 for mounts that use the larger Losmandy style rail.

If you wish to use our telescope for astro-photography use a field flattener or focal reducer/flattener. For cameras that have an APS or smaller chip use the SFF7-3FT. If a focal reducer/field flattener is desired and you have an APS or smaller chip use the SFFR-102. If your camera is a full frame of larger unit use the SFFR130 which will be available later this year.

Light gathering and magnification power: The purpose of a telescope is to  gather light and magnify the apparent size of the object being viewed. A 130 mm  refractor gathers 345 times the amount of light of the naked eye. This will reveal  faint objects in space. Magnification power (the increase in relative size of  the object being viewed) is dependent upon the eyepiece being used. Different  eyepieces provide different magnification powers. Since this telescope uses a highly  accurate, hand figured objective lens and is triple tested in the USA, these  telescopes are free of coma and astigmatism seen in many import telescopes. This provides sharper details when viewing at higher powers. Although Dawes limit states maximum power for telescopes under good conditions is about 307 power for a 130 mm telescope, you can exceed this power on a steady night. This is a true apo triplet capable of high power, when conditions permit. Check the Recommended Accessories section to make the  best choice for eyepieces.

Two year warranty and Stellarvue Service:  Stellarvue telescopes and accessories are covered by a two year warranty. But it  does not stop there. Since we are a telescope maker, we can repair your  telescope for a nominal fee years after it goes out of warranty, should you accidentally drop it on concrete or otherwise damage it. Buy a Stellarvue Telescope with confidence. We make them here and can fix them here. Our customer care is legendary.
