The Stellarvue SV160R is a 6.3" observatory class, apochromatic refractor with a focal length of F-8. This telescope delivers true apochromatic performance with significant light gain over the smaller telescopes in our line. Photographic performance is excellent. When using larger chip cameras, our dedicated 160 photographic field flattener will provide a flat, fully illuminated field with virtually every production camera made.
Fully multicoated apochromatic triplet objective: The SV160R provides extreme contrast, a perfect star test, and excellent color correction. To further enhance this high level of contrast, extreme broadband multi-coatings are used on all six lenses, making the stars appear vivid and the background velvet black. These coatings transmit light above and below the visual spectrum, minimizing reflections seen on ccd images.
Stardust white aluminum tube and dew shield: The aluminum tube and dew shield are painted in a lustrous stardust white finish and have black anodized aluminum fittings. When the telescope is used, this dew shield may be extended to minimize dewing of the objective at night and to serve as a glare shade during the daytime. When being stored, the dew shield retracts to reduce the length of the telescope.
Internal tube treatment: The main tube interior is painted "ultra flat" black inside and has five knife edge baffles to eliminate any tube wall reflections baffled to eliminate excess light reflection. The 11 baffle ridges of the focuser draw tube are painted "ultra flat" black to eliminate the most common type of reflections. This treatment is far better than draw tubes that are merely threaded. The blackened edges of the objective are the final method used to preserve the outstanding contrast of this exceptional apochromatic lens.
3.5" Feather Touch dual speed focuser: The fully rotating, 3.5" Feather Touch offers 4" of travel. The Feather Touch features an ultra-smooth coarse/fine focus knobs (10:1 Ratio), internal brake system, ultra-low backlash system.
Aluminum hinged rings: The SV160R comes with two American made, cnc machined, hinged, aluminum mounting rings. Each ring has five screws top and bottom. Threaded holes are 1/4-20. There is one center hole, two holes spaced 1.5" apart and two holes spaced 60 mm apart. Use the optional TP-10rail for telescope mounts using the Vixen style rail or use the optional TP19 for mounts that use the larger Losmandy style rail.
C160 Case: A heavy duty, thickly padded storage case is included. The C160 case is of a higher quality than import hard cases that fall apart after a few uses. This case will last for many years.
Light gathering and magnification power: The purpose of a telescope is to gather light and magnify the apparent size of the object being viewed. A 160 mm refractor gathers 522 times the amount of light the naked eye can. This will reveal faint objects in space. Magnification power (the increase in relative size of the object being viewed) is dependent upon the eyepiece being used. Different eyepieces provide different magnification powers. Since this telescope uses a highly accurate, hand figured objective lens and is triple tested in the USA, these telescopes are free of the coma and astigmatism seen in many import telescopes. This provides sharper details when viewing at higher powers. Dawes limit, which is the stated maximum power for telescopes under good conditions is about 378 power for a 160 mm telescope, but you can exceed ever this power on a clear night. This is a true apo triplet capable of very high power, when conditions permit. Check the Recommended Accessories section to make the best choice for eyepieces.
