This is the Stellarvue 80 mm f-6 apo triplet made using the 2.5" Feather Touch focuser. It uses the sharpest and highest contrast 80 mm apochromatic triplet lens we have ever offered. The focuser is threaded for photographic field flatteners sold below and has 1 1/4” and 2” compression ring visual adapters. This telescope also comes with heavy duty dual rings and a C19 heavy duty travel case.
The Stellarvue SV80ST features an 80 mm f-6 (480 mm focal length) fully multi-coated, 3 element objective lens with an Ohara FPL-53 center element.
Fully multicoated apo triplet objective: The high Strehl, apochromatic triplet objective is triple tested at Stellarvue to ensure that it performs perfectly. Lenses are better than .95 Strehl, the same as our former Russian made Lomo lenses. We are now taking the time to provide interferometric test reports with each of our triplet refractors showing how the lens in your telescope actually performs. Hitting a Strehl ratio of .95 means your telescope will perform perfectly.
Each lens focuses light precisely and in addition the extreme broadband coatings on each surface enhance it even further. Using it visually, the stars appear vivid and the background, velvet black. Since these coatings transmit more than 99% in the visual spectrum and far above and below it, reflections seen on ccd images are eliminated. The relatively fast speed and high strehl optics make the 80 apo an excellent wide field imaging telescope while the visual performance is simply stunning.
Tube and dew shield: The standard model (SV80ST2-25FT) comes with an aluminum tube and dew shield that is finished in Stardust White. Fittings are black anodized aluminum. The dew shield retracts reducing the length of the telescope when being stored. Extending the dew-shield minimizes dewing of the objective at night and serves as a glare shade during the daytime.
Internal tube treatment: The inside of the main tube assembly is painted "ultra flat black" and is baffled to eliminate tube wall reflections.
Difference between aluminum and carbon fiber tubes: The aluminum tube of the SV80ST cools down faster than a carbon fiber tube and it can be machined more precisely. This is important in such a short, high end apo triplet.
2.5" Feather Touch focuser: This model comes with the Feather Touch 2.5" focuser with 2" and 1.25" compression ring visual adapters.
Mounting Rings: The SV80ST2 comes with beefy, aluminum, dual hinged rings. Astro-photographers prefer individual hinged rings since they can be widely separated which eliminates flexure.
Supplied accessories: Telescope comes with mounting rings, 2.5” focuser, 2” and 1.25” adapter, caps and case. In addition to the supplied accessories, you will need a star diagonal or erecting prism, eyepiece(s) and a mount. You may also want to purchase a reflex or optical finder scope
Light gathering and magnification power: The purpose of a telescope is to gather light and magnify the apparent size of the object being viewed. An 80 mm telescope gathers 131 times the amount of light of the naked eye. This will reveal faint objects in space. Magnification power (the increase in relative size of the object being viewed) is dependent upon the eyepiece being used. Different eyepieces provide different magnification powers. Since our 80 apo uses a highly accurate, hand figured objective lens and is triple tested in the USA, these telescopes are free of coma and astigmatism seen in many import telescopes. This provides sharper details when viewing at higher powers. Dawes limit states that the maximum power for telescopes of this size is about 186 power for a 80 mm telescope, under good conditions but it is well known that highly accurate apo triplet refractors can exceed Dawes limit. The real limit to you observing will be the atmosphere and the amount of light you will need to properly illuminate the field. Check the Recommended Accessories section to make the best choice for eyepieces.
Two year warranty and Stellarvue Service: Stellarvue telescopes and accessories are covered by a two year warranty. But it does not stop there. Since we are a telescope maker, we can repair your telescope for a nominal fee years after it goes out of warranty should you accidentally drop it. Buy a Stellarvue with confidence.
