Product Description

This is the imaging bundle sold at a discount with our smallest refractor. The bundle includes the SV60EDS telescope as it comes separately but also include the SFF60 photographic field flattener, the TP-60 riser block and a TP-14 Vixen style rail. The flattener will convert the 60 mm into a 330 mm f-5.5 telephoto lens. The riser block and rail will permit better balancing with a camera.

At the heart of this little telescope is a super sharp 60 mm f-5.5 apochromatic doublet objective using Ohara FPL-53 optical glass. It can be used visually as an ultra-portable daytime and nighttime telescope with its high contrast, excellently corrected objective and 2" rack and pinion, dual speed focuser. Drop it in your suitcase and take it everywhere you go! Just attach it to a camera tripod, add your diagonal and eyepieces and you are up and running!

For daytime photography, use the telescope, the flattener and a t-ring to create a super sharp 330 mm f-5.5 telephoto. Images will be on par with telephoto lenses costing as much or more than the telescope/flattener combination. Beautiful astro-photos are possible with excellent color correction. Be aware however, that a fast, small (under 70 mm) apo lens with a field flattener will not provide a flat field to the edge. The lens is too small. Depending on your requirements, some minimal cropping may be needed. Nonetheless, the 330 mm focal length will provide very wide field images even with the edges cropped. It will perform like a telephoto lens. To give you some idea of the capability, click on the astro photos above to view images taken by Jon Talbot using the SV60EDS, our dedicated flattener and his Canon 60D DSLR.

Mounting this telescope atop your larger refractor will mean you have the most impressive photographic guide scope/finderscope available. Since it is an apo telescope in its own right it will reveal amazing high contrast, wide field views of the night sky. We recommend using our guide scope rings when mounting the SV60EDS atop another larger telescope. This means removing the clam shell and dovetail. We suggest this as a telescope mounted on top of another will never point at the same location in the sky. To do this, one of them must be adjusted. Our guide scope rings permit this adjustment. They also allow the user to center on a bright guide star when guiding.

The SV60EDS has a lightweight aluminum tube and dew shield. It weighs only 3 pounds. It comes with a 2” rack and pinion focuser with a 1.25” compression ring adapter. The focuser is fully rotating with a collet that is identical in design to our renown 2.5” focuser rotator. The tube is machined in two parts. Insert a 2" star diagonal or erecting prism into the telescope to make it a short, lightweight visual telescope that will fit easily in any briefcase! Add the threaded extension tube and our optional field flattener to convert this telescope into a sharp 330 f-5.5 wide field astrograph. Comes with a hinged clamshell ring with removable Vixen type mounting base and finderscope dovetail finder shoe. We are also throwing in a lightweight, padded backpack for easy transport.
