The SV115 is designed as a stunning, super planetary visual telescope with superior contrast and resolution. This telescope is preferred by visual observers who want to see more detail on the planets and in deep sky objects than a 4” telescope can deliver. It is also a great imaging telescope when combined with one of our dedicated photographic field flatteners.
The SV115T-25SV has white aluminum tube and dew shield. The new 2.5” dual speed focuser that is sold with it comes with 1.25” and 2” compression ring adapters. The focuser is threaded for the Stellarvue field flatteners and focal reducers. The telescope comes with heavy duty American made hinged rings and a thickly padded case.
The Stellarvue SV115T delivers high visual performance that exceeds others in its size class due to its certified high Strehl optics. This telescope comes with an optical test report showing it has a Strehl ratio of .95 or higher which is essentially perfect. This objective will perform as well or better than any lens of its size. Several extreme broadband coatings are used on all six lens surfaces to enhance contrast, making the stars vivid and the background velvet black.
Stardust white aluminum tube and dew shield: The aluminum tube and dew shield is painted in a lustrous and beautiful stardust white finish. This white finish will stand out against the black anodized aluminum fittings giving this telescope a high-end, classy look. The dew shield has the name Stellarvue laser engraved on each side. The dew shield can either be extended or retracted. Extension reduces dewing at night and can cut out the light from those blaring street lamps. The dew shield also serves as a lens shade during the day. Retraction will reduce the length of your telescope tube for convenient storage.
Internal tube treatment: The inside of the tube assembly is painted "ultra flat black" and is fully baffled to eliminate reflections. The focuser has baffle ridges to reduce draw tube reflections. These ridges are painted, reducing the most commonly found type of reflected glare. This treatment provides better glare reduction than focusers that only have the ridging to prevent glare. All of these methods add up to provide the outstanding contrast of the Apo triplet lens.
2.5" Stellarvue dual speed focuser: The 2.5" SV focuser comes standard with the 115 and has over 65 mm of focus travel. This focuser is perfect for visual use and imaging. The dual speed mechanism provides an ultra-smooth fine focus knob with 10:1 focusing ratio. This permits extremely fine focusing adjustment ensuring you are in perfect focus every time. An internal brake system adjusts tension and capacity.
Aluminum hinged rings: The SV115 comes with two hinged, American made, cnc machined aluminum mounting rings. Each ring has five screws top and bottom. Threaded holes are 1/4-20. There is one center hole, two holes spaced 1.5" apart and two holes spaced 60 mm apart. Use the optional TP-10 rail for telescope mounts using the Vixen style rail or use the optional TP6 for mounts that use the larger Losmandy style rail.
Case: Your telescope comes with a C9S thickly padded storage case.
Light gathering and magnification power: A 115 mm refractor gathers 270 times the amount of light of the naked eye. Although Dawes limit states maximum power for telescopes under good conditions is about 270 power for a 115 mm telescope, you can exceed this power on a steady night. This is a true apo triplet capable of high power, when conditions permit. Check the Recommended Accessories section to make the best choice for eyepieces.
Two year warranty and Stellarvue Service: Stellarvue telescopes and accessories are covered by a two year warranty. But it does not stop there. Since we are a telescope maker, we can repair your telescope for a nominal fee years after it goes out of warranty, should you accidentally drop it on concrete or otherwise damage it. Buy a Stellarvue Telescope with confidence. Our customer care is legendary.
What else do you need?
To use your telescope visually, you will need:
- a star diagonal
- a mount and tripod
- a finder scope and adjustable finderscope rings
To take astro-photos you will need a photographic field flattener designed for this telescope.
|Visit our Recommended Accessories page to learn which accessories we recommend.|
To use your telescope in taking astro-photos we recommend one of the following:
- For cameras with an APS or smaller chip use the SFF7-25.
- For larger chip cameras use the SFF3-25.
- If you are using a camera with APS or smaller chip and want to get a wider field use the SFFR115-25. These flatteners and reducer-flatteners must be placed at specific and precise distances from the CCD chip in your camera.
Please note: each camera (and even each t-ring) has different spacing. We want to make this as easy as possible for you so please call us at (530) 823-7796 if you have any questions and we will assist you in getting the correct parts so you can attain the proper spacing between the flattener and chip in order to attain the best images.
