ALT-AZIMUTH DUAL MOUNT

Two telescope capability, less damping time and precision worm gear slow motion controls in a lightweight, portable package. The Stellarvue MG2 mount holds two telescopes side by side or a single telescope on one side. The telescopes do not have to be of equal weight since this is an isostatic mount MG2A head 217 with each telescope nearer to the center of gravity than with fork mounts. This configuration improves damping time showing less vibration than one arm fork mounts.

Unlike other dual mounts in this size class, the MG2 uses two precision worm gears for micro-metric slow motion control in each axis. So once you locate an object, lock down the clamps and use the two knobs to move about the field of view, easily and precisely centering the object. The mount comes with two 1/4-20 threaded mounting holes on each side. The holes are 35 mm apart.

For quick release, add our spring-loaded dovetail shoes on one or both sides. Use the TD2 shoe if your telescope uses a Vixen rail or a TD7 shoe if your telescope uses a Losmandy style rail. The complete tripod system (MG2A) comes with one TD2 dovetail shoe.

This mount comes with our stable Surveyor tripod with hardwood accessory tray. It will hold two telescopes side by side or a single telescope on one side. Micro-metric slow motion controls use a precision worm gear in each axis. This mount will hold telescopes up to the SV115 and another smaller telescope on the other side. Makes a great mount for the SV105 on one side and the SV70ED or SV80ED on the other. Also included with the mount is one TD2, Vixen sized, spring loaded, quick release dovetail shoe. This mount is wait listed. Order now and a $100 deposit will be charged. The balance will be charged when you mount is finished and shipped, in about 30 days. Mount your MG2 head to a tripod that uses the standard (Bogen style) 3/8-16 stud. This adapter has a 3/8-16 threaded hole and attaches to the bottom of the MG2.

Mounts to either side of the MG2 mount to accommodate telescopes using a Vixen sized dovetail rail. This is the most common telescope rail used.

Aluminum Tripod

Stellarvue heavy duty Surveyor's tripod with Appleply Tray.Tripod has a 59 mm recess at top and a 5/8”-11 mounting bolt. The MG2 mount attaches directly to the tripod. Tripod is 36” - 58.5” in height when in use. Legs are 40” in length when retracted. The MG2 adds 15” to total height). Tripod with tray weighs only 11.6 pounds but is extremely stable thanks to its oversized top. It is much more stable than Chinese aluminum tripods.
