Objective lens

80 mm clear aperture, 560 mm focal length, hand figured, achromatic doublet aplanat. This is a unique proprietary Stellarvue designed lens. It is free of coma and astigmatism and provides an excellent star test. While this objective has less visible false color than the faster Nighthawk 2, it is not an ED or an apo. For customers interested in an ED level of performance both in contrast and color correction, we recommend the Nighthawk Next Generation which uses extra low dispersion glass.

Tube assembly

All aluminum, fully baffled optical tube assembly using thick wall aluminum tubing.

Lens Cell

High precision aluminum, adjustable cell for accurate and stable alignment. The user need never worry about this alignment as our exclusive adjustable system uses nine points of contact holding lens elements in perfect position even when the telescope is jarred. Since each lens element is permanently held in place, the retainer applies less pressure on the lens, eliminating optical pinching which is common in many telescopes in this price range.

Mounting System

Dual aluminum hinged rings and a Vixen style dovetail rail mounts to most EQ and all Stellarvue mounts  Also, can be attached directly to a camera tripod.

Approximate Dimensions

3.5" diameter main tube and 4 1/16" diameter dew shield. OTA is 18" long (dewshield retracted) and 20 3/4" long (dewshield extended) weighs only about 6 pounds with finderscope attached.

Focuser

2" dual speed Crayford focuser with 11-1 reduction and 1.25" compression ring adapter
